Weeran Sale Results, 2014

Performance and Presentation hit the mark at Weeran

Weeran Angus Principals Alec & Jo Moore were delighted with the success of their 8th annual spring on property bull sale on 10th September.  49 bulls were offered, with 45 selling at auction for an average of $4,700, with two more bulls selling immediately after the sale.  Comments received from clients attending the sale were all very positive, with the presentation of the bulls outstanding.  Average sale weight was 773kgs, for genuine two year old bulls.

Top price was paid for Lot 10 for Weeran Holt VHWH455, a Lawson’s Nadal son out of a B/R New Frontier Dam.  Repeat buyers, Marie Sheedy and Ken Shone of Beeac, purchased Weeran Holt for the top price of $8,000.  He had an outstanding EMA ebv of 7.2 putting him in the top 10% of the Angus breed for EMA.  The Nadal cattle have worked well at Weeran, displaying thickness, shape and very good structure in his progeny.  Holt scanned very well for EMA and graded highly by independent evaluator, Dick Whale of IBMS.

Second top price bull was also by Lawson’s Nadal, and was one of the heaviest bulls in the sale at 866kg.  Weeran Havana VHWH242 was purchased by repeat buyer, Arthur Welsh of Kennedy’s Creek, who purchased two bulls, with the second bull by popular sire T/C Franklin.  Havana was a low birthweight sire with an ebv of 3.6 and an actual birth weight of 37kgs.  An average frame sized bull who expressed exceptional body thickness and capacity, which proves you don’t have to be big at birth or above average frame, to weigh like lead.

Lawson’s Nadal, T/C Franklin and D19 bloodlines were highly sought after with 16 sale bulls being sired by these reference sires.  Four Nadal sons sold for an average of $5375 and seven Franklin sons sold for an average of $5357.

Guest auctioneer, Brian Leslie conducted the sale, with spirited enthusiastic bidding from start to finish.  Bulls were sold predominantly throughout South West Victoria, with a number of bulls going to Gippsland and NSW.  The local support is extremely satisfying,  and with so many repeat buyers.  Alec Moore is delighted that many leading herds in the state are choosing to work with Weeran.  Weeran genetics are definitely performance driven.

Weeran Angus have raised the bar and lifted numbers considerably this year, which has been very successful and an exciting step forward for their program, including the addition of two embryo transfer programs this season.

Thanks to everyone who attended the sale, and we appreciated the great support from all the agents on the day.  Hamilton’s M.C. Kerr and Co settled the sale.
