WEERAN TOP 10 HERD IN RASV HEIFER CHALLENGE
Weeran were delighted to be presented with their Heifer Challenge Finalist Certificate in Bendigo last week. 50 leading studs/herds across Victoria and Southern NSW were recently judged at beef week showcasing a pen of 10 heifers. “Nine Days of Beef Week, saw the RASV staff and judge Alec McDonald travel 7000 kms to visit the entrants.
Alec McDonald said “Weeran’s pen of females were a very even pen of moderate maturity heifers showing excellent breed characteristics and strong maternal traits. PTIC to calve at 2 years of age. They had good structure and excellent temperament. Weeran Angus had very clear breeding objectives and a very good understanding of client requirements.”
‘The females of the Weeran herd are the heart & soul of our operation said ‘Alec Moore. The product suitability & production cost outcomes are strongly related to how well suited your cows are for your markets & their grazing environment. We have the philosophy that the cow herd must have the genetics to satisfy our clients meat quality & production requirements and be able to produce this at a very low cost.
A highlight of our draft of bulls this year is the exceptional calving ease and low birth weight which consistently appears through the catalogue. 70 Bulls will be offered at auction on Monday 27th February at 1pm. Please note the NEW DATE being the Monday!
The key sire lines in the sale include Musgrave Big Sky, Sydgen Black Pearl, NZ TeMania 11 465, and home bred sires Weeran Joel, Weeran Hooper and Weeran Hopman. When Tim was in the USA, they visited the Musgrave program and were very impressed with the female herd and the program across the board. They felt it was a ‘very well structured herd’. They then visited Bobcat Angus, the current owner of Musgrave Big Sky and thought they were doing a ‘ripping job’.
They also own Big Sky’s dam, who impressed him very much. Big Sky is a big powerful bull with a surprisingly low birth weight. He is very sound and his calves are very impressive. There are 9 sons in the sale. Sydgen Black Pearl is an outstanding calving ease sire with plenty of growth and muscle. His EMA is in the top 1% and his sons are very impressive on paper and in the paddock.
There are 11 sons in the sale. We are using a New Zealand bred son of Tuwharetoa Regent TeMania 11 465. 11 sons will be offered in this sale. He has high rib and rum fat ebvs and in the top 1% for IMF. He has given the Weeran herd a big lift in IMF and body fat cover. The homebred sires of Weeran Hooper, Weeran Hopman, and Weeran Joel are all producing excellent sons.
We look forward to welcoming you to Weeran. Please give us a call on 0438 787258 if you would like a catalogue sent out or you have any queries.
