Largest offering at Weeran

Weeran Angus offered the largest draft of sale bulls in their 30 year history. 72 bulls sold from an offering of 78 with an additional two bulls selling after the sale. Average across the entire offering of 2 year old and 18 month old bulls was $6,903.

Top price of $11,000 went to the Lewis Family at Hawkesdale for Lot 65. A longstanding client of Weeran’s. Lot 65 is an ideal bull for grass finishing programs with a high net feed efficiency ebv and calving ease, by Wattletop Franklin. Equal second top price of $10,000 went to repeat client Nareen Station for Lot 67, and the Perryman Family for Lot 15. Lot 67, Weeran Perth VHWP311 is a terrific calving ease son of Wattletop Franklin, with a growth spread in the top 1% for the breed. Lot 15, Weeran Pegasus VHWP52, an embryo out of the Weeran Pride family, and by Wattletop Franklin! Once again calving ease and excellent growth. Franklin has worked very well in the Weeran program. He is a trait leader for calving ease, growth, fertility and carcass traits. He sires moderate, but heavy framed docile cattle with super calving ease. He has been well used across the industry with 1,123 progeny across 148 herds.

Top performing sires in the sale was lead by Wattletop Franklin G188 averaging $8,563, followed by Ascot Hallmark $8,167, JMB Traction $7,750, Barwidgee JayW $7,000 and Paringa Judd M118 $6,938. Ascot Hallmark is an outstanding son of TeMania Emperor out of a Milla Murrah D108 daughter. He is a power bull with top 1% growth for 200, 400 and 600 day weight with positive fat and good IMF. He has great capacity and his progeny have great eye appeal. This was certainly seen in the Weeran sale.

Volume Buyers were Nareen Station and Winnidad Pastoral both purchasing 6 bulls each, Glencoe Farm Trust purchased 4 bulls along with the Lewis Family purchasing 4 bulls. Nareen Station have been purchasing Weeran bulls since 1998! Weeran were delighted to welcome many new faces to the sale along with new buyers to the Weeran Program. The Moore family also appreciate the loyalty from clients who have been purchasing bulls since 1991.

A strong sale with the bulls behaving in an exemplary manner, handling the sale conditions very well.
The future of the beef industry is looking very exciting. Protein shortage worldwide, and beef will be in demand.
