Client success with Weeran Genetics

A spirited atmosphere at the 26th Annual Weeran Angus sale set the pace for a ripping sale, with clients of 30 years supporting the action, actively buying top line bulls. 58 bulls were competitively purchased at auction from an offering of 62, with two more selling straight after the sale for an overall average of $6,200, an increase of $1,630 from the 2015 autumn sale. Weeran Principal, Alec Moore was thrilled with the success of the sale, and in particular to see so much new interest in the Weeran program, but also the number of long standing clients, who have been purchasing for many years. Ten bulls sold between $8,000 to $9,500, and ten bulls also sold between $3,500 to $4,000. All budgets were catered for with a quality article.
Top price was paid by repeat buyers Bob and Barbara Burgin of Hamilton, who have been purchasing Weeran genetics for eleven years. Lot 46, VHWK175 Weeran Kingston is a son of Weeran Gerard G159, a Weeran bred sire. At 758kg, he is an exceptional calving ease and short gestation bull. His actual birthweight of 34kgs, and EMA scan of 90 square cms, in a bull who is just 18 months, is excellent. The Gerard progeny were very well accepted by the buying crowd, with 11 bulls offered and all selling. The Burgin’s also purchased Lot 38 VHWK264, an excellent Rennylea Edmund son.

Second top price of $9250 was paid by return buyers, Boortkoi Pastoral Company, Hexham for Lot 25 Weeran VHWK120, also a son of Weeran Gerard G159. He is a 7 grading power package, topping out at +128 for 600 day and 78 for carcase weight. Boortkoi also purchased Lot 32, Weeran VHWK319 an Ireland’s Fletcher son, with tremendous growth and indexing.
Volume buyers included return buyers Rosverland Farms, Nareen Station, Highbury Trading and the McKinnon family.
A noticeable feature of the Weeran sale was demand shown for soft, easy doing, moderate framed bulls with genuine depth of body and thickness of hindquarter. The temperament of the bulls was also a feature, handling the pressure of a sale ring environment very well.
Four sire lines sold above bull sale average. Number one sire, Barwidgee JayW with 6 sons offered, 6 selling for an average of $7,500. Second sire, Ireland’s Fletcher with 7 sons offered and all selling for average of $6,929. The third sire being Weeran’s home bred sire, Weeran Gerard G159, with 11 sons offered and all 11 selling for an average of $6,568 and lastly, Dunoon Gabba, 6 offered and 6 sold for an average of $6208.
It was a very strong and consistent sale with prices showing confidence in Weeran genetics and service. Brian Leslie was guest auctioneer, with Kerr and Co settling the sale.
