2017 Spring Bull Sale Results

Numbers Up And Very Good Value At Weeran!

Weeran offered a record number of bulls for their 11th Spring Bull Sale, with 53 selling from an offering of 64, for a top of $8,000 twice and average of $5,020. Buyers certainly braved the elements to attend the sale, and were thrilled with the evenness and quality of the line up of sale bulls, with outstanding performance bulls purchased for outstanding value. Weeran welcomed many repeat clients, and appreciated new buyers coming up the driveway to join the Weeran program.

Weeran Principal, Alec Moore said it was a ‘tougher day in the office than he had hoped’, and with the great season, we have been able to present the bulls in the best condition in my time in the industry. It was very pleasing to hear the comments on the bulls about “their quality, presentation, good temperament with the figures behind them.”

Equal top price of $8,000 was paid by long standing client, Nareen Station, for Lot 2, VHWL543, a Barwidgee JayW son, who has excellent growth curve and type. He is an ageless sire who just keeps coming up with industry leading cattle. He is a calving ease son, with growth and indexing in the top 10% of the breed. $8,000 was also paid by repeat buyer Ned Kelly of Caramut, for Lot 5, VHWL421. A very correct and powerful son of Musgrave Big Sky with 200, 400 and 600 day weight all in the top 10% of the breed, along with carcase weight.

Volume buyers included the Savin Family from Macarthur along with The Hummocks, both purchasing 6 bulls, with repeat buyers Rosverland Farms and the Mann family both purchasing 5 bulls each.

Leading sire lines were Barwidgee Jay W with 4 sons averaging $6,500, Musgrave Big Sky with 7 sons for an average of $6,071 and homebred sire Weeran Hooper H20 with 3 sons averaging $5,333.

The temperament of the bulls was also a feature, handling the pressure of the day and the sale ring very well. Brian Leslie was guest auctioneer, with Kerr and Co settling the sale.
