BRAND YOUR CATTLE WITH WEERAN!
Weeran Angus will be offering 60 bulls in their on property autumn bull sale on Tuesday 19th February, 2013 at 1pm.
We have introduced some very exciting new genetics into the Weeran program, who have made an impact in our herd, and I’m sure they will deliver in yours. New sire lines include TC Franklin 619, Silveiras M811 Total 6103, B/R Future Direction 4268 and TeMania Africa A217. Other sires include Alpine Candybar C178, Alpine Dinky C106, Sitz New Design 458N and Ardrossan D19.
These sires are all industry leading genetics which will propel our herd, and yours, into the future. Weeran’s objective is to produce the full package of phenotype and balanced performance data with more emphasis on higher indexing bulls. Weeran is supplying this with a quiet, well developed animal who will visually, and on paper, impress. Weeran has a strong commercial focus with a cow herd which is rigorously challenged to meet stringent seedstock and commercial relevance.
There are a number of standout bulls in the catalogue. Two that come to mind are G310 and G60. Weeran G60 is an Africa son out of a Sitz 458N first calf heifer who has long fed index number of $135, and 3.9 for birth with a 109 for final 600 day weight. Weeran G310 is a Lawsons Dinky Di son out of an Ambush 28 Cow who has long fed index number of $133, with 4.8 for birth and 109 for final 600 day weight. This is a sample of what will be available at the sale, and is the type of animal we are striving to produce in numbers.
Weeran has made great gains in the averages of the key performance indicators. Actual birth weight average for sale bulls has come down from 42kg to 38.44kg. Birth weight ebv has come down from 4.84 to 4.54. Milk ebv has gone up to 15, 600 up to 99, EMA up to 4.5, IMF up to 1.32 and Long Fed Index has gone up from $94.69 to $102. Excellent gains have been achieved in twelve months breeding, which is great reward for our efforts.
Seasonal conditions have been mixed with extremes of wet and dry following in quick succession which can make things challenging for everyone. My fundamental thought process is to stick to the knitting of a fertile, functional livestock enterprise, which is what we can control, and when the wheel turns for better seasonal and trading conditions we will be in a position to capitalise.
One only has to look at our major trading partner in the USA where in the worst drought in 80 years, with high grain prices, a 300kg steer is worth $3.45 per kilo. The Americans love beef, and are eating their numbers faster than they can breed it. We will be in a great position to meet that demand in that base market of grinding beef.
Weeran will be open for the Beef Week Field Days on Wednesday 30th January with all sale bulls on display. For further information, please refer to the Weeran website, www.weeranangus.com.au or contact Alec Moore on 0438 787258 or Stephen Baker on 0408 719100.

2012 SALE INFORMATION
Weeran Angus will be holding a special field day on Friday 7th September at 9am, prior to their annual bull sale on Wednesday 12th September at 1pm. This will give everyone an opportunity to inspect our line up of sale bulls in a relaxed environment. We hope that you will take up this opportunity to come and enjoy a BBQ and for us to catch up with you to discuss your breeding programs.
45 Bulls will be on offer at our on property annual spring bull sale. We are very pleased with the draft of bulls that have been specially selected for this sale. Included in this run are the bulls which we used as yearlings in Spring 2011 to mate our yearling heifers and back up A.I. programs. We consider them to be some of our best genetics and a fantastic opportunity to acquire them! This year’s spring sale bulls will stand up to inspection and are every bit as good as their February brothers. To see the sale action from February and to get a feel for sale day, Ben Simpson of OGA marketing has produced a You Tube video of the day. Go to www.weeranangus.com.au/news to watch the action.
We are very excited with the progeny of our new sires in the Weeran program; Rennylea Hyline C510 and Adrossan Equator D19. Rennylea Hyline is a high indexing son of Right Time 338 out of a Rennylea dam who is off the scale for carcase performance. We have some very exciting carcase ebv’s with IMF and EMA scans from these sires. Some highlights include Weeran Rennylea F191 who has an EMA of 8 with a raw measurement of 91 sq cm, and IMF of 1.6. F191 also has a Japanese Long Fed Index of $119. Weeran Rennylea F032 has an EMA of 7.2, IMF of 2.3 and is our highest Indexing bull at $128.
Adrossan Equator D19 is an outstanding son of Equator A241. His progeny look exciting and he is giving us an outcross which does not sacrifice performance. Weeran Equator F100 is a highly graded bull, with excellent growth and EMA of 5.3, IMF 1.3 and Long Fed Index of $112. F094 by Alpine Dinky is a big powerful bull, with an outstanding visual appraisal, grading 7, and fantastic growth and a Japanese Long Fed Index of $109. Weeran Sitz F206, is a very high grading bull with fantastic growth from 2.7 birth to 108 for 600 day. A great heifer bull with an index of $118. This sire was used by Weeran to back up the a.i. program.
The consistency we are achieving in our bull production system is largely associated with the hard working and constantly challenged cow herd. The fertility and doing ability of our females is constantly being challenged, with short joining periods and sharing the feed resource with a significant commercial prime lamb operation. They have never let us down! It is these goals of fertility, doing ability and longevity which are the corner stone to our profitable cow/calf operation.
The Moore family welcomes you to their field day and bull sale.
