Weeran Angus 54th Sale Results
The Weeran Angus Team are very appreciative of the genuine support received from breeders for their 54th bull sale on Tuesday. The conditions are as challenging as they have ever been for so many in our district, yet repeat clients showed confidence in our program.
53 bulls sold from an offering of 70, to a top of $25,000 and average of $8,567.
Top price was paid by return buyer David and Marg Pevitt of Warrong, who have been purchasing Weeran bulls for the last 7 years. “Lot 3 Weeran Uppercut VHW23U36 is going into a beautiful Angus herd said Weeran Principal Alec Moore. David and Marg are very passionate farmers”. Alec describes U36 as an absolute tank with huge capacity and thickness. He is a HBR ET son of Sterling Pacific out of donor dam Stoney Point Zania N306 who has 16 progeny to her name. Sterling Pacific is a new sire in the program and has bred very well. “We used Uppercut over our 3 and 4 year old cows said Alec”. He has huge growth, large frame with a very good soft muscle pattern and scored a top GTS grade 7 by Dick Whale of IBMS. With a birthweight ebv of 4.3 to a 600 day weight of 159, he is going to pack on the kilos. His 200, 400 and 600 day weights are all in the top 5% for the breed, along with top 3% carcase weight with excellent EMA and indexing.
Second top price of $16,000 was paid by return clients the Lewis family of Hawkesdale who purchased three bulls at the sale. “They have been purchasing the top line of the Weeran bulls for the last 17 years, and producing fantastic progeny who are highly sought after” said Alec. Lot 5, Weeran Usain VHW23U143 is by Witherswood Bronc who has had a lot of success in the Weeran program, continuing to breed the top run of bulls each sale. U143 also has 200, 400 and 600 day weights in the top 5% for the breed, with very good fertility, carcase weight, EMA and retail beef yield with excellent indexing. Used in the Weeran program to back up the T drop cows ai program. This is the 16th sale bull by Witherswood Bronc. Now that is a statistic in itself.
The lead reference sire is Sterling Pacific with 9 sons averaging $10,667, followed by Millah Murrah Paratrooper with 2 sons averaging $10,500, 4 sons by Landfall Mainland $9,500, 9 sons by Waitara Quidditch $9,000 and 6 sons by Witherswood Bronc $8,333.
Bulls were sold to clients throughout Victoria and into South Australia and NSW. Volume buyers included Wardor Run, Nareen Station, Roo Park Pastoral, Murroa East, P and J Lewis and the Armit Family.
The Weeran team is passionate and excited for the future development of our program. Our thanks to Brady Hicks and the Kerr and Co team, and guest auctioneer Brian Leslie. To our team at Weeran and helpers behind the scenes, a huge thank you! It takes a very committed team to breed, manage and present a line of bulls as we did on sale day!
Alec said “the good times with top prices are just around the corner! Now is the time to maintain a productive female base so you can be ready to take advantage of the upswing in the market when supply dries up and believe me when the season improves supply will dry up!”
